Maldives Liveaboard
& Diving Safari
A Maldives liveaboard is the most complete way to experience the archipelago — travelling between atolls by night, diving untouched reefs by day, accessing sites that no land-based resort can reach. This is the definitive guide to planning yours.
A Maldives liveaboard is a safari boat that serves as both your accommodation and dive vessel for 7-14 nights. You sleep, eat, and dive from the same boat — travelling between atolls overnight to reach remote dive sites at dawn. Most itineraries offer 3-4 dives per day across multiple atolls.
Liveaboard
routes
Central Atolls
Rasdhoo Madivaru manta point, Maaya Thila, Fish Head — three of the finest dive sites in the Maldives. Accessible from Male, ideal for first-time liveaboard guests.
North Atolls
The least-dived atolls in the Maldives with the healthiest coral. Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Hanifaru Bay manta aggregation (June-November), remote dive sites rarely visited.
South Atolls
Extraordinary atoll passes with strong currents drawing large pelagic species. Whale sharks year-round in some areas. Far fewer liveaboards than the central atolls — genuinely remote diving.
Deep South
The most remote diving in the Maldives. Tiger sharks, grey reef sharks, oceanic whitetips, and pristine hard coral systems undisturbed by tourism. Recommended for experienced divers only.
Types of
liveaboard boats
Budget liveaboard
Basic cabins with en-suite bathrooms, 3-4 dives per day, shared deck space. Good value for the diving experience. Food quality and comfort vary significantly.
Mid-range liveaboard
Comfortable cabins, air conditioning, good food, sun deck with loungers. 3-4 dives daily with experienced guides. Most popular tier in the Maldives.
Luxury liveaboard
