Choose by who’s travelling first, atoll second. The single biggest factor is the trip type: a honeymoon has different needs to a multigenerational family holiday. Start with the “best for” column above, then consider transfer — the North Malé resorts (Ritz-Carlton, Sheraton, Halcyon) are quick speedboat or short seaplane hops, while JW Marriott (Shaviyani) and St Regis (Dhaalu) involve longer seaplane or domestic-flight transfers that reward longer stays.
On Bonvoy points versus a booked package: points can deliver strong value, particularly at the Ritz-Carlton where overwater villas are the base category.
