The verdict
Niyama Private Islands is the most creatively programmed resort in the Maldives — and the only resort in the world with an underwater nightclub. The two-island concept — Play for social energy and Chill for seclusion — creates a resort of genuine versatility: guests who want the world's first underwater DJ experience and those who want complete tranquility can both find what they are looking for. Subsix — the underwater nightclub
Subsix is the world's first underwater nightclub — a submerged glass dome accessible by ladder below the lagoon surface. DJ nights are held several times per week, with international and resident DJs performing sets in a venue that is genuinely unlike any other on earth. Diners eat at tables set below the waterline with the reef visible on all sides. Private events — sunset cocktail hours, birthday dinners, proposal settings — can be arranged in the Subsix space with advance booking. The experience of dancing below the ocean surface, with tropical fish visible through the glass, is one of the most extraordinary things the Maldives has to offer — and it is available only at Niyama.
The two-island concept
Play island is where the social energy lives: the nightclub, the surf breaks, the kids club, the in-ocean trampoline, and the more active water sports programme. Chill island is where the overwater villas, spa, and quieter dining venues are concentrated. Guests can move freely between islands by the connecting bridge or by boat. The concept allows Niyama to serve genuinely different types of guest simultaneously — unusual for a resort of this price point.
The surf programme
Niyama has the most comprehensive surf programme of any Maldives resort — with surf breaks accessible directly from the island, a dedicated surf instructor team, and daily forecasts guiding guests to the best conditions. The breaks are suitable for intermediate surfers and above. The Tree Villa
Niyama's most photographed accommodation is the Tree Villa — a villa elevated in the island's jungle canopy with a private plunge pool and views over the treetops to the ocean beyond.
