Cheval Blanc Randheli
Review 2026

The verdict
Cheval Blanc Randheli is the most architecturally accomplished resort in the Maldives. Jean-Michel Gathy's overwater villas — with infinity pools over 40 feet long, sleek white interiors, and a design language closer to Monaco than Maldives — are the finest hard product in the Indian Ocean. The Guerlain spa on a dedicated island is an experience category entirely its own. For guests who value design, fine French cuisine, and the LVMH service standard, Randheli is unmatched. For guests who want a warm, natural environment, Velaa next door may resonate more.
Getting there
Noonu Atoll — 40-minute seaplane from Male. Daylight hours only. Maafaru Airport domestic flight available for late arrivals with 15-minute speedboat transfer.
The design
Cheval Blanc Randheli is the most beautiful resort in the Maldives. Jean-Michel Gathy — the architect responsible for Aman's finest properties — has created something at Randheli that exists outside the usual Maldives vocabulary of thatched roofs and barefoot chic. The materials are marble, white stone, and dark wood. The pools are 40+ feet long. The lines are clean and the views uninterrupted. It is closer to a French Riviera vision of perfection than a Robinson Crusoe island — and for a specific type of traveller, it is exactly what they came for.
The critical question: does this contemporary design resonate with you, or do you want the warmth of a more naturally styled island? Guests who find Randheli cold or clinical are not wrong. Guests who find it extraordinary are not wrong either. Know which you are before booking.
The Guerlain spa island
The Cheval Blanc Spa is on its own dedicated island — reached by a short private boat ride. The full Guerlain treatment menu is delivered in overwater pavilions above a pristine lagoon. The experience of a Guerlain facial or couples treatment in this setting — complete privacy, full ceremonial Guerlain ritual — is genuinely extraordinary and unlike any other spa in the Maldives.
Le 1947 and dining
Le 1947 — named after the year Christian Dior launched his New Look — is the finest expression of French haute cuisine in the Maldives. A tasting menu with exceptional technical precision, wine pairings from a cellar of real quality, and service matching the formality of the finest Paris restaurants without losing island warmth. One of perhaps five restaurants in the Maldives that could stand in any major city.
Cheval Blanc vs Velaa
These two resorts are 20 minutes apart by speedboat and are consistently compared by experienced travellers. The consensus: Cheval Blanc wins on hard product and design, Velaa wins on service warmth and natural environment. For guests with 10 nights, five at each is the most complete Noonu Atoll experience possible. Our Niche Getaways specialists arrange this combination regularly.
Who is Cheval Blanc for?
For travellers who want the finest villa design in the Indian Ocean. For guests who love the LVMH aesthetic translated to a tropical setting. For couples celebrating a significant occasion who want a restaurant that matches the moment. It is not for guests who want barefoot simplicity or natural island warmth — those guests should look at Soneva Fushi or Velaa instead.
